We are proud to serve food from our farm!

We have ducks and chickens who produce the eggs for us, and when we need more, the eggs come from our neighbor Emma.  All eggs come from free range happy birds.

We grow tons of stuff here on the farm, we have avocado trees, Mandarin oranges, regular oranges, sour oranges for lemonade and our special revitalizing limonada.  We have papayas, guavas, guananabas, Colombian plums, maracuya, pineapples, bananas, baby sized bananas, plantains, starfruit, limes, sugarcane, American lemons, grapefruit, dragonfruit, cacao, and some fruit that tastes sort of like pineapple that I have no idea what its called, but it makes great juice, and some things that are kinda like cherries. No matter what the locals tell you, don’t eat the big brown round fruits, they are gross.

You are free to walk around and pick what you like.  Some trees are very young and aren’t producing yet, but we can wait.

The little old lady across the river sells us bananas and oranges too.  I don’t really need them but I buy them whenever I see her, I like to support her, she’s sweet.  She also has yucca and maracuya at times.

More than 75% of the food eaten at Origen EcoResort has been locally sourced.

We also have a vegetable and salad garden that we have recently planted with spinach, a half dozen different kinds of lettuces, cabbage, tomatoes, cucumbers, celery, peppers, eggplant, onions and radishes.  There are also herbs –  basil, rosemary, oregano, catnip, mint.

Here in Barbosa the main crops are coffee, sugar cane, cacao, plantains, bananas. Sometimes the simple stuff is hard to get, like mushrooms.  Go figure.

What we don’t produce enough of here on the farm, we buy from our neighbors, or at the local outdoor market.  Everything is organic and fresh.

Food for retreats is prepared by me, and can be vegetarian, vegan, or with some meat.  Gluten free can be accommodated easily, but please give us advance notice.  We don’t serve pork here on the farm.  Food can be Colombian style, American or Ethnic (Mexican is a specialty around here).

Breakfast is typically fresh fruit, bread or fresh arepas, and scrambled eggs.

Lunch and dinner offerings in the past have included avocado spring rolls with fried rice, portabello mushroom fajitas with black beans and cilantro lime rice (and all the fixings), fresh fish baked in the indigenous style wrapped in plantain leaves, vegan chili with cornbread, fresh hummus pita pockets with quinoa salad.  I am happy to work with you with a menu that suits your group.

We are also blessed to have a wood burning pizza oven, and I have become quite the pizza master. Build your own pizza night is a super popular add-on to your retreats.

Morning coffee and tea, whole fruits available throughout the day and afternoon fruit smoothies are typically included.

Fondue nights with chocolate from Origen Cacao, fresh sorbets and homemade ice creams, and other desserts can also be added to your package.

The chocolate factory has all the equipment and space you need to teach your own cooking class, or we can teach one for your group.
