THE ORIGEN STORY

In 2013, I came to Colombia because I had nothing better to do.  I had just sold my sailboat that I had been living on in Los Angeles, and came here to watch a boat for some folks traveling.  I was immediately entranced by Colombia and felt the magic here.  I decided to stay.

I wasn’t here long before I met some folks in Medellin who were part of a unique spiritual community.  I joined them in their work with the Sacred Medicines, and this has realigned me with a path I had long abandoned, a spiritual journey.

I set myself up in Medellin and started work on Origen Cacao, my organic bean-to-bar chocolate company. I was also given the work of sharing the Sacred Medicines and set up Origen Sagrada, organizing medicine retreats in the United States.

I knew I wanted to live outside the city, where the magic of Colombia really lies. I wanted to be able to grow cacao, sugar cane, and anything else I wanted to. I wanted to create a space to teach people about chocolate, and I also wanted to create a beautiful space for those we share medicine with in the United States to consider home.

After a 2 year search, looking at over 100 fincas, I was on the verge of giving up and leaving Colombia. I received a vision about this land that is now Origen EcoResort; I was told by the spirits that this land was a place to heal people, that it would be a place full of love and joy, and that folks would be called to be a part of it. All I needed to do was make it happen.  The very next day the owners of this property called me, and I was granted the ability to owner finance this finca. From the first moment I saw this land, I knew it was special. It had that sacred beauty of land that had been loved and cared for.

The land has shown me that this space is here to heal and to teach people. It is only my job to manifest that vision. I listen to the land, the rocks, the river; I use this to create and hold space for you.

The owners who sold it to me had bought it 40 years ago, when they immigrated here from Argentina. They treated it with love, guarding the land as it was naturally, while adding in flowers and orchids. They lived here before there were roads and electricity, baking fresh bread in the wood-fired oven and growing their own vegetables. I hope to continue their tradition.

We have 11 acres of land here. Our water comes from a pure, natural underground spring. Our property line is a river, perfect for swimming on a warm afternoon. We have sacred bamboo forests and dozens of exotic birds, including toucans. There are also butterflies of all sizes and colors. Wild jungle cats and giant iguanas have been spotted. I believe that animals heal with their unconditional love; they are an important part of this place.

This land is creating a space of healing, of love, of peace. Those that come here are here to be a part of that; to be healed, to help and heal others. They come here to reconnect to the power of the the earth, to reconnect to their spirits. Everyone that passes here contributes to the vision in many different ways. I hope you will join me.
